It used to be believed that if implants were used or loaded
with teeth during the healing process, they would loosen and become
infected. Research has shown that this is not true, but that implant
stability is far more important than usage during healing. As long
as an implant doesn’t move during healing, bone will attach
normally. Also, newer implant surfaces are much more attractive
to bone cells and heal faster. When these two concepts are combined,
immediate loading is possible.
With TeethToday® we have perfected the procedures so
that the provisional teeth can be placed at the same time the posts
are placed. This can be done whether you need one tooth or multiple
teeth. Other procedures you may require (such as extractions) can
also be done during the procedure. We want the process to be convenient
and straightforward for our patients.
Extraction, implant placement and tooth restoration may
seem like a lot for a patient to go through in one day. In fact,
patients respond very favorably with minimal discomfort, swelling
and disruption of their daily schedules.
The ligaments that support the natural tooth contain all
of the nerve endings. Once the tooth is gone, the area is much less
susceptible to pain. Our patients report little or no pain related
to their TeethToday® procedures. These procedures are carried
out at our facility, typically with little more than local anesthesia
to numb the area and sedatives to ensure that you don’t feel
any pain. Our patients rarely require more than Tylenol® or
Advil® for any discomfort following implant placement.
The result is that our TeethToday patients can enjoy
a meal on the same day they receive their new teeth.
While the new teeth look just like permanent teeth, they
are considered to be interim or provisional. They are designed to
be replaced within 6 to 12 months with permanent teeth – made
of a more durable material such as porcelain - by your regular dentist,
cosmetic dentist or prosthodontist.
